MEDIA RELEASE:

This evening, July 17th, at approximately 6:04 PM, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office was involved in an officer-involved shooting. A citizen notified the Sheriff’s Office through an external building intercom of a female in the parking lot creating a disturbance. The citizen reported the female had a gun. Preliminary information indicates deputies responded to the front area of the building where the female was discovered with a firearm and knife. Deputies confronted the female suspect and gave orders to drop the weapons. The female failed to comply with the orders of the officers and one officer fired their service weapon, striking the female suspect.

The female suspect died from her injuries. The investigation has been turned over to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Medina Police Department. The female suspect is not being identified until notification of next of kin is made. Additional information will be released as it becomes available by the Ohio BCI Public Information Officer.
