Official Press Release from the Ashland County Sheriff's Department - On Friday, March 15 2024 the Ashland County First Responders teamed up for an active shooter training at Grace Church in the City of Ashland. Personnel from University Hospital, the Ashland Fire Division, the Ashland Police Division, the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Loudonville Police Department, the Ashland Emergency Management Agency, all the County Fire Departments, Ashland County Coroner's Office, and the Ohio Department of the Natural Resources Participated in the exercise.
Active threat events are complex and challenging situations that require a coordinated and swift response. Interagency training is critical in preparing first responders for such incidents by fostering communication and collaboration. These types of exercises improve our ability to work together, ultimately enhancing the safety of our community. It is essential for responders to prioritize joint active threat training to better prepare for such events and safe lives.
The leaders of the Ashland community acknowledge that Ashland County is great place to live on and raise a family and they took the time to thank everyone, including the many volunteers that participated as victims, evaluators, and bystanders that made this a successful training event. At the end of the exercise, all participants had a debriefing. They talked about what they learned and critiqued themselves on what could be done to improve their actions, should an incident take place involving many of our emergency response agencies in and around Ashland County.
