Sandusky Post investigating fatal crash in Ottawa County
CURTICE – The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred today at approximately 6:40 a.m. on state Route 579 near Genoa Clay Center Road in Allen Township, Ottawa County.
The preliminary investigation showed a Chevrolet Sonic, driven by Heather Musser, 46, Oregon, was eastbound on state Route 579 when she went left of center and struck a westbound Chevrolet Express, driven by David Sziber, 34, Cleveland. The impact caused Musser’s vehicle to become disabled in the roadway where it was struck by an additional eastbound vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brad Gnatkowski, 53, Saginaw, Michigan.
Musser suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Sziber was extricated from the vehicle and taken by air ambulance to Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center and his passenger, Aaron Thomas, 36, Cleveland, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS personnel.
Gnatkowski and one of his passengers, Craig Rancour, 64, Saginaw, Mich., sustained minor injuries and both were transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center. His other two passengers, Brock Sprowl, 47, and Gerald Mose, 57, both of Frankenmuth, Mich., were not injured.
The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. All drivers and occupants were wearing safety belts when the crash occurred.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, Northwood Fire Department, Lake Township Fire Department, Ottawa County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Pat & Son Towing, Mercy Health Life Fight and Walker Funeral Home.
