Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigating a One-Vehicle Fatal Crash



Perkins Twp – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post is investigating a one-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, January 19, 2024, at approximately 6:20 AM.  The crash occurred on W. Strub Rd. west of Columbus Ave. in Perkins Township, Erie County. 


Unit #1:  Ricardo Trevino, age 66, of Sandusky, Ohio, was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer.  Mr. Trevino was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center.  He was later transferred to Cleveland Metro Hospital. 


Unit #1 was traveling southwest on W. Strub Rd.  Mr. Trevino failed to maintain control of the vehicle, went off the left side of the road, overturned, and struck a fire hydrant.  Mr. Trevino was transported to Firelands Hospital and later transferred to Cleveland Metro Hospital.  He was pronounced deceased at Cleveland Metro Hospital on 1/22/2024.  


This crash remains under investigation.  


The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Perkins Township Police Department, Perkins Fire Department, Erie County Water Department, and Sandusky Towing.
