Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash.

Groton Township- The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday March 29, 2024 at 6:36 PM on State Route 4 at milepost 5 in Groton Township, Erie County.


Randy L. Ulery Jr., age 46, of Bellevue, was driving a red 2014 Kia Soul southbound on State Route 4. Mr. Ulery traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck two trees and a tree stump. Fire fully engulfed the Kia Soul following the crash.


Mr. Ulery was trapped inside the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was mechanically extricated from the vehicle and his safety belt use is unknown at this time.  


It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.


The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Groton Township Fire Department, North Central EMS, Erie County Coroner’s Office, Ransom Funeral Home, and Central Auto Towing.
