Little League Dimond Named after one of Ashland's very own.
Ashland- Ashland is proud to be home to one of the true baseball legends, and this week we honor him by renaming a little league field after him at Cahn Grove Park, which will be named after true legend baseball player John Roseboro who was born in Ashland in 1933. He had become a Major League Baseball player, and coach. He played collegiately at Central State University before being signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played catcher in the major leagues from 1957-1970, mostly for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He was a four-time All-Star and considered one of the best defensive catchers of his era, winning two Gold Glove Awards. He played in for World Series and was a member of three championship teams. So the field at Cahn Grove Park will now be forever known as Roseboro Field. And a big Thank you to Ralph and Betty Jo Thassi for making this important project happen. Mr. John Roseboro passed away at the age of 69, in Los Angeles, California from many health ailments in August of 2002.
