Ashland- Ashland Fire Department and EMS, Ashland Police Division received a 911 call at 3:00 pm, that a (citizen) who was walking the dog and who was not the dog's owner, the dog's named FRANKIE a pug dog, had gotten away and ran onto the pound, and had fallen through the ice at about a dog had fallen into the pond at the Brookside Main Pond. Once on scene they notice that dog was struggling to stay afloat in the water, and the officer asked the man to throw the leash, and the officer (Abraham Newman) had walked out onto the ice and then had fallen through the ice and into the cold waters. Once the officer Newman reached Frankie, he had put the leash on him and put him back on the sturdy ice where he could be taken back to shore, then officer Newman was pulled from the water, and taken to the Ashland EMS. to be checked out.
According the Ashland Police officials said: "Frankie is okay and taken back home to get warm." And also officer Newman was checked out by Ashland EMS. Another great happy and lucky story and good ending, and fast action of both departments. Officer Newman's body cam was lost in the pond according to the police report, so no video footage available.
